Vice-President (External)
The University of Manitoba is western Canada’s first university and, after 131 years, continues to have close connections to its people and its communities. It is the province's premier post-secondary educational institution and its only research-intensive university. With an enrollment over 27,000 students, the university offers over 90 degrees in professional and graduate programs. It is also home to a wide range of research centres and institutes, and Smartpark Research and Technology Park, a community of innovators that forges collaborations between university and industry and home to 30 growing companies in various sectors. Central to the vitality of the community, the university reaches out and enriches the recreational, educational and entertainment landscape of Winnipeg.
The Vice President (External) reports to the President and Vice Chancellor and is the senior external relations officer playing a critical role in achieving the university's mission by contributing to the financial well-being of the university and enhancing the university's image and reputation. The Vice-President (External) is responsible for building partnerships and fostering relationships between the university and the many communities it serves, including governments, business and industry, foundations, media, alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends of the university. The Vice-President (External) oversees the External Relations Division, which includes Alumni Affairs, Development and Advancement Services, Government Relations and Public Affairs.
Leadership and vision in this role are essential. The ideal candidate is an exceptional strategic and innovative community leader who also demonstrates engaging workplace team leadership. With a proven track record of success in large, complex milieus, the successful candidate will thrive in building and developing relationships, effecting strategies for revenue generation, enhancing communications and building consensus on multiple issues with a wide variety of stakeholders.
